I prefer open, but we keep it closed because we keep Marshy in.
I love this picture... Marshall came to me on January 2, 2004
I usually keep Christmas stuff up until Old Christmas, January 6th... hence the sock :)
Marshy was about 8lbs I believe when he first showed up, he fit into the palm of my hand... he came after the death of my cat Shadow who I shared my life with for 17 years. She died about a month and a half before... it was a tough time. My brother, who can often times be described as a pain in the ass, self-centered, and inconsiderate, showed up at my door with this little bundle wrapped in a Union Jack towel and said the following to me:
"I just took this from a guy who was going to raise him to fight, if he's going to have a chance in this life, it's going to be up to you to take care of him."
He handed Marshy to me and left... suddenly I was a dog mommy. A dog. I didn't even know where to start. What did he eat, how do I care for him, how do I ensure he doesn't turn out to be a little terror... I too was concerned about the stigmatism of him being part Pit. It's amazing how your maternal instincts take over.
As much as my brother can get on my last nerve, even at 29 he's still an immature idiot most days. I'll never be able to thank him enough for the joy he's brought to my life with Marshall. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was completely lost at that time in my life. Unhappiness at work, my personal life and the loss of Shadow had diminished me to a shut in for the most part.
What Christmas means to me, is unselfishness, and thoughtfullness for those you love. The smallest gesture can save a person, give them purpose again. A lesson learned from my younger brother.
Thanks to Lizzie for the cool idea.
Is anyone interested in doing a Christmas card swap? Drop me a private message and we'll go from there. :)
Saw this flick today with mom and my niece (she's 7 and she talks... drives me nuts, I'm constantly shushing her :)
Movie was decent. I wrote a review on SuggestaMovie.com
Yay Christmas!!! It's just around the corner...
There's a new mega shopping complex in town... well almost. Dartmouth Crossing is about 1 mile or 2 from my home and it's something I've been waiting a lifetime for, no more driving all the way to Halifax for big box shopping. The only businesses confirmed though that I know of are Wal-Mart, Home Depot, and Empire Theatres. I hear there's going to be a Costco, and an IKEA, but seeing is believing... does anyone out there know anything further?? Or even the expected open dates for these bad boys? I had heard a rumour that perhaps before Christmas for a couple.
It's hard to believe, impossible to imagine, difficult to digest... literally... I'm over the turkey fest.
In my family we only do turkey dinner three times a year if I'm lucky. Someone, who shall remain nameless, is always pulling for a damn ham (which I hate). So I wait and wait for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter to roll around to enjoy my mom's awesome full meal deal.... it comes with all the fixin's. This year however I think I over did it and I OD'd on turkey. Even the thought of another bite of that succulent bird at the moment has my belly doing flip flops.
So here's to the end of another holiday season, and a couple of months until the next to build up a hankering for another turkey dinner. Though I have been warned that Christmas dinner may be ham this year. I think I will start shopping around now for another invite, someone who values a good turkey dinner to celebrate the occassion!
Ham??! For Christmas... really, how absurd. :)
