How have people mispronounced your name? How is it supposed to sound?
Submitted by Lorie.
Nanette - it's not so tough... 'Na - net but it is truly shocking how many different names I have been referred to as... Lynette, and Annette are the common ones... then there are Danette, and if you can imagine Ganette.... these are just a few of the winners when it comes to pronunciation... when someone actually has to write it out... forget it. It is like half of the population forgot how to spell and sound things out. IT DRIVES ME CRAZY!
However, it has helped me develop one very positive skill... I am adamant about pronouncing and spelling other people's names properly. This has become an increasing interesting task now that I am marrying someone from the other side of the world... where the syllables in peoples names come in very different patterns then what I am used to here in North America. For example, Srichand - my father in law Sri - chund is how it's pronounced. Suraiya - Aju's mother's friend, Pramila, Pratiba, Siddharth, Madhu, Neerja, Nupoor, Chaitanya, Manoj, Pratiba - I could go on forever. Admittedly, it is easier to pronounce them once I have seen them written down, but if I am just being introduced and have to repeat the name... it is damn tough, especially when it's being delivered with an accent! Fun times :)
My fiance, Ajay - poor bugger. Everyone in North America calls him A J - and not Ah-J as it is meant to be pronounced. He just goes along with it to make it easier for everyone, but I am generally right behind him correcting people. In my own way, I guess that I have just gone along with it too when it comes to my name, as I just respond to anything with "ette" on the end of it and hope for the best!
** This was a great question of the day!
"Oh Me Oh My, I think I'm gonna die" - Excursion Around the Bay - The Fables - this is one of Aju's favourite Celtic songs.... and it is oh so fitting today... when I crawled into bed early last night, I knew something was up, because I could barely keep my eyes open, and my attention span was shite.
This morning, dear lord, I woke up at 5 am - stuffed up, coughing, banging pressure in my head... it was dreadful. And to think! Just yesterday I said how fortunate I had been to not have succumb to the winter blahs of sickness this year. My mother will laugh when she hears this story... they're quite superstitious, and believe that when you "put your mouth on something" it will inevitably happen. :)
I drove to the pharmacy in agony this morning and picked up something new... Buckley's Cold, Cough and Flu
- tablets! Buckey's cough syrup has been a long time favourite for being effective, but if you're familiar with the product you know it's comparable to swallowing poison. I am eager to see if these tablets will do what the syrup does... so far an hour into taking one the pressure in my head has died down. Yippee... We'll see tomorrow if my endorsement continues to be ringing.
If you could open a restaurant, any kind you want, what would it look like and what's on the menu?
Submitted by A is for Amy.
Aju and I have spoken of this a number of times as it's a dream of his... a bit less of one for me because I fear the time commitment that it would demand.
We'd love to open an Indian restaurant here, something with really warm colours, tables and chairs in one area and a cushion section in another... and private little cove areas for intimate dinners. Menu items would be more inclusive of traditional South Indian fare, but at reasonable prices... making it affordable and still elegant.
I see lots of reds, oranges and yellows through out, with ornate dieties offering blessings and hope to the clientele. Soft lighting, soothing musical undertones and a very family delivered atmosphere. It's more like welcoming someone into your home for a meal than your business.
Will it ever happen? If Aju has his way it will... for me, lets just see how he makes out with working and managing kids first!
This was awesome... this is my South Park character as designed on this site.
Special thanks to Georgie Boy for the link.
I couldn't help myself... I did Aju too!
I 'could' blog something interesting, but it would like come out as dribble... it's late, I'm tired and stressed. So instead of boring anyone who stumbles upon me today, I figured I had the time to add something worth a giggle or three.
